Shanice Simpson’s practice is an investigation into Colourism – the discrimination of individuals with dark skin, often by people from the same ethnic group – and its effect upon perceptions of beauty and limits to success. Through photography and installation her work explores colourism through TV, advertising and social media, and the influence accounts dedicated to black and brown beauty have on the black community.
